< Back to Cars | Build Shots | Slideshow The Cro-Magnum After I sold the Marquis de Soto I knew that I wanted to go to work on a new Dodge Magnum. These cars are so cool--- they were the first chopped-top, sloped-back station wagons, and they have a Hemi V-8 engine and AWD suspension. Mike and I started by taking off all the bumpers and lights and looking at our blank canvas. We first added my favorite headlights, a '58 Lincoln, and the favorite front bumper, a '55 Caddy Dagmars. We got a junked '60 Chrysler from my friend Rolf, with those really big and long Virgil Exner fins, and they went on next. We used a '60 Caddy rear bumper, and parts of the quarter panel. The side scoop is fabricated to bring the bulge further into the front of the car. We painted the Cro-Magnum the original metallic silver, and then laid in the candy apple, lime green flames with 23 karat gold metal flake in it! We decided that was too subtle, so we added 160 silver bullets to the front grille. Oh yeah, that did it. Mike and I did all this body and paint work under a tent in the backyard at Fabulous Furniture! Even though it wasn't quite finished, the Cro-Magnum was chosen out of over 7500 cars to represent the Designer Hundred at its first show, the Syracuse Nationals 2010. Pinstriping by Howie
